Abstract
Surveillance of concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 or its RNA fragments in wastewater has been an invaluable tool during the COVID-19 pandemic to support public health efforts. The dataset described here contains the data that was used to determine the partitioning behaviour of SARS-CoV-2 in municipal wastewater. In addition, the partitioning of pepper mild mottled virus (PMMoV) and two coronavirus surrogates, human coronavirus 229 and murine hepatitis virus, were also analyzed as these viruses are commonly used for either data normalization for trend analysis or as process controls. The total copies of RNA of all aforementioned viruses were compared under different centrifugal conditions with varied force and duration to assess viral partitioning. Moreover, three different ultrafiltration devices, used to measure RNA in the aqueous phase of wastewater, were analyzed. In summary, the use of different centrifugal conditions and ultrafiltration devices can affect how the partitioning behaviour of viruses in wastewater is determined. Overall, it is important to understand the fate of viruses of public health concern in wastewater to prepare for future potential infectious diseases.
This dataset contains viral partitioning in municipal wastewater data used for the following thesis: Patrick Breadner (2023). The Apparent Partitioning Behaviour of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in Municipal Wastewater. UWSpace.
